Prosecutors have prepared an indictment against imprisoned Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtaş because of a Twitter post from 2013.
Prosecutor Ahmet Altun, who also prepared the indictment of the Kobanî trial, where more than 100 members of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) members face life sentences, charged Demirtaş with "propagandizing for a terrorist organization."
The tweet shared by Demirtaş on November 16, 2013, when he was the co-leader of the HDP, included the phrase "Bijî Serok Apo," Kurdish for "Long live leader Apo," a slogan for Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader o the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), according to the 28-page indictment.
The prosecutor demands a prison sentence of one to five years for the politician.
Demirtaş has been behind bars since 2016. He was not released an ECtHR Grand Chamber ruling in late 2020. (RT/VK)
