Attacked by a racist group during the Newroz celebrations at Hacettepe University in Ankara yesterday (March 22), a group of students held a press conference at the Human Rights Association (İHD) office in Ankara.
The student who read out a statement in the name of the group, Eda Kahraman, said that plain-clothes police officers intervened after they gathered on Beytepe Campus to celebrate Newroz.
A group of Grey Wolves, an ultranationalist group, and private security officers later joined the police, she said. "These bandits who came from outside of the school with knives, machetes and other types of sharp objects continued to stay in the school, they were patted in the back as if nothing had happened."
Tunahan Gözlügöl, an executive of the İHD Ankara Branch, said the students had been attacked for exercising their constitutional rights.
