Onur Gencer, who carried out an armed attack against the İzmir Provincial Organization building of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) yesterday (June 17) and shot Deniz Poyraz to death inside the building, was referred to the courthouse in the morning today. Gencer has been arrested by the Penal Judgeship of Peace on Duty at the İzmir Courthouse later in the day.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), giving his statement at the İzmir Security Directorate yesterday, assailant Onur Gencer said that "his aim was to find a few people there, " adding that "if there had been others, he would have shot at them as well."
