The Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has given its decision about Assoc. Prof. Candan Badem, who was dismissed from his duty at Munzur University (former Tunceli University) in Dersim province due to an investigation related to the "Fethullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ)é, which is held accountable for the coup attempt in Turkey on July 15, 2016.
Assoc. Prof. Badem has announced the decision of non-prosecution on social media: "In the terror-related investigation it had been conducting against me since 2016, the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has finally given a decision of full non-prosecution."
Badem has also addressed some question to Ubeyde İpek, the rector of Munzur University: "Why did you write me on the list of people to be discharged by a Statutory Decree? What evidence did you have?"
Assoc. Prof. Badem has also asked rector İpek whether it is true that "he told a faculty member from the university, 'I didn't dismiss Prof. Badem because of the FETÖ, I dismissed him because he opposed me'."
What happened?
While he had been working at Munzur University (former Tunceli University) for five years, Assoc. Prof. Candan Badem was dismissed from his duty as the Head of History Department on July 20, 2016, six months after an investigation had been launched against him (January 14).
Speaking to Beyza Kural from bianet on August 3, 2016, he said the following about the process following the release of the declaration "We will not be a party to this crime" by the Academics for Peace:
"The signatories from Tunceli University, me and Veysel Demir, were associated with the FETÖ investigation. There is no concrete allegation.
"I am one of the four academics who sued [President Recep Tayyip] Erdoğan due to his insults targeting the Peace Academics.
"My dissident identity is known, therefore I see what is done as an attempt to put the dissidents in the bag of the FETÖ." (RT/SD)
