In house raids in Ankara in early morning hours today (June 8), TELE 1 news channel / website Ankara Representative İsmail Dükel and Odatv Ankara News Director Müyesser Yıldız have been taken into custody.
The detention of Dükel has been announced by TELE 1 Editor-in-Chief Merdan Yanardağ on social media. "Our friend, TELE 1 Ankara Representative İsmail Dükel, was detained at 7.30 a.m. this morning, the reason for his detention is unknown," he has said and added:
"The prosecutor's office has given four days for detention. While a journalist can be summoned to depose at the prosecutor's office, he is taken into custody like that. It is not something that happens or is supposed to happen in democracies."
It has been reported that police officers are searching the home of Müyesser Yıldız. Yıldız has been allegedly detained as part of a "military espionage" investigation launched by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. (RT/SD)
