Former Police Intelligence Chief Sabri Uzun, who was taken into custody on April 23 as part of an investigation launched by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, has been arrested and sent to prison.
After deposing to the public prosecutor conducting the investigation, Uzun was referred to the penal judgeship of peace to be arrested.
The investigation was launched against Sabri Uzun on charges of "insulting the President", "propagandizing for a terrorist organization" and "aiding a terrorist organization."
Who is Sabri Uzun?
Serving for 40 years at the security department, Uzun retired in 2013. He penned a book entitled, "The Hole: Baykal Tape, Dink Murder and Other Conspiracies" (İn: Baykal Kaseti, Dink Cinayeti ve Diğer Komplolar). He recounted how the Fethullah Gülen group organized in state institutions and the role they played in come important lawsuits.
He assumed office as the Intelligence Agency Chief at the General Directorate of Security in 2003. When journalist Hrant Dink was murdered in 2007, he was still holding the same post.
The "F4" intelligence report dated on October 13, 2005, which stated that Yasin Hayal had a great hatred against Armenians and he would conduct an attack against Armenians in İstanbul, as well as the "F4" intelligence report dated on February 15, 2006, which indicated that Yasin Hayal would kill Hrant Dink by any means, were delivered to the Security Intelligence Directorate when Uzun was heading the department.
On trial without an arrest in the Hrant Dink case, Uzun is charged with misconduct and demanded to be sentenced up to one year in prison. (HA/SD)
