Eleven-year-old Rabia Naz Vatan died after being found injured in front of her home last year in Eynesil district, Giresun province.
While the police records say that Rabia Naz killed herself by jumping from the terrace of her family's home, his father Şaban Vatan claims that she was run over by a car driven by the nephew of the Eynesil Mayor.
Şaban Vatan was detained today (March 21), journalist Metin Cihan reported on Twitter.
"Rabia Naz's mother Atika Vatan just called me. Şaban Vatan is detained in Eynesil. He is taken to Giresun. His telephone is taken from him. He is not allowed to talk to her wife," Cihan said.
Cihan then shared a video by Atika Vatan, in which she said, "They summoned my husband to depose in the morning. Right now I learned that he is detained. His phone was confiscated, I can't talk to him in any way and I want everybody to know this."

Call to the press
After no progress has been made for months, Şaban Vatan began campaigning on social media for her daughter's killers to be found.
In a series of tweets he posted last night, he called the media to make the incident heard.
"The press is for the nation. If the nation wants justice for their children, the press which remains silent shall be denounced," he said.
Parliamentary question by CHP MP
Since the killing, several MPs have submitted parliamentary questions regarding the incident. The main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Giresun MP Necati Tığlı today directed a parliamentary question at Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül, asking, "Is the case of Rabia Naz being covered up?"
In his question, the MP pointed out that the Institution of Forensic Medicine's autopsy report indicated that the girl was killed by car hit rather than falling from height.
Tığlı also underpinned that a black Fiat Doblo car was notified to the police by the witnesses.
Şaban Vatan said in a video he published on March 19 that the Chief Public Prosecutor of Giresun sent a forensic medicine officer seven months after the incident and that officer said that the girl could have committed suicide.

My daughter lost her life because of blood loss," he said. Vatan said that the person who hit her daughter by a car was the nephew of Eynesil Mayor Coşkun Somuncuoğlu, according to the information he obtained. Vatan also claimed that the case was covered up after the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) Giresun MP Nurettin Canikli intervened in. Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu met with Vatan in February on the killing of his daughter. He told bianet after that the meeting took 10 minutes. Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said yesterday that the Görele Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting the investigation into the incident and the search for evidence is still continuing. |
