The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation against the Co-Chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Pervin Buldan for having criticized the investigations that were previously launched against four other HDP MPs.
An investigation was launched against the HDP Diyarbakır MPs Remziye Tosun and Musa Farisoğulları on the ground that they attended the funeral of Mehmet Yakışır, a member of the People's Defense Forces (HPG), which is the military wing of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK); while another investigation was launched against the HDP Batman MPs Feleknas Uca and Mehmet Rüştü Tiryaki for having attended the funeral of Dewran Baysal, another HPG member.
What did Buldan say?
At the group meeting of the HDP in Turkey's eastern province of Van, the HDP Co-Chair Pervin Buldan spoke about the investigations launched against the four MPs of the HDP. Buldan said,
"They started tyrannizing our friends elected as the HDP MPs from yesterday. We do not accept that they have quickly launched an investigation against our four friends. Attending funerals is a part of our culture. It is our biggest duty and responsibility.
"There is a big struggle that we have been waging so that people will not lose their lives. If people lose their lives in this conflict-ridden period, it is our responsibility to be with the families of our people.
"I would like to point out that we will continue doing it in the future as well. Our families are not abandoned. Our MP friends should share the least of sorrows in their provinces, it is our biggest responsibility. The struggle that we will wage is certainly important but if people continue losing their lives, we will continue standing by the families. (AS/SD)
