One in every five youth is unemployed in Turkey

According to Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) the unemployment rate reached 11.3 percent with an increase of 0.1 percent in April. The broad unemployment rate was announced as 21.7 percent.

The narrowly defined unemployment rate was 11.3 percent in April, with an increase in the number of unemployed by 65 thousand and reaching 3 million 853 thousand according to TurkStat.

The unemployment rate was estimated at 14.5 percent for women and 9,7 percent for men.

Women employment below 30 percent

The number of the employed increased by 408,000 in April and reached 30 million 371 thousand. The employment rate increased by 0.6 points to 47,1.

This rate stood at 64,7 percent for men while 29,8 percent for women.

Labor force participation rate 53 percent

Labor force participation increased by 473 thousand people in April compared to March and reached 34 million 225 thousand, while the labor force participation rate increased by 0,7 points to 53,1 percent.

Men's labor force participation rate was 71.6 percent for men whereas it was 34.9 percent for women.

Youth unemployment rate 20 percent

The unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group dropped by 0,8 points to 20 percent in April.

The youth unemployment rate was estimated at 23,7 percent for women and 18,1 percent for men.

Average working time per week 45,1 hours

Seasonally adjusted working time per week increased by 0,2 hours compared to the previous month and became 45,1 hours in April.
