‘We cannot make a living’: Labor organizations' rally not permitted by sub-governor

A ban has been imposed on the joint rally of "We cannot make a living" to be held by the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), Confederation of Public Employees Trade Unions (KESK), Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB) and Turkish Medical Association (TTB) in Antalya province on December 12 (Sunday).

Upon the security directorate' notification that "it might pose a risk", the Muratpaşa Sub-Governor's Office has banned the rally.

As reported by antalyaekspress.com news website, on the day when a rally is also to take place in İstanbul, the DİSK, KESK, TMMOB and TTB were to hold a march and rally in Antalya with the slogan, "We cannot make a living, we want a budget on our side! Enough with price increases now! Enough with high prices, impoverishment, unemployment, precarity, hunger now!"

According to the plans, the groups would gather at the Aydın Kanza Park at 1 pm and would march to the Cumhuriyet Square.

However, rejecting the request, the statement of the Muratpaşa Sub-Governor's Office has referred to the related notification of the Antalya Provincial Security Directorate and informed the organizers of the rally that "the Security Directorate considered that the march to be held as per the Law no. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations might pose a risk".

Accordingly, the Sub-Governor's Office has announced that the request for holding the march and rally has been found inadmissible. (HA/SD)
