The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has announced that the unemployment rate in Turkey in May 2018 is 9.7 percent.
Compared to the same month last year, the number of unemployed has decreased by 89 thousand people and become 3 million 136 thousand. As for the unemployment rate, it has fallen by 0.5 points in comparison with May 2017 and fallen by 0.4 points in comparison with March 2018.
While the youth (ages of 15-24) unemployment rate has decreased by 2 points and become 17.8 percent, the rate of unemployment in 15-64 age group has fallen by 0.5 points and been measured as 9.9 percent.
Women's participation in workforce on the increase
In May 2018, labor force has increased by 561 thousand people in comparison with the same month last year and reached 32 million and 274 thousand. As for the participation in workforce, it has increased by 0.3 points and become 53.3 percent.
When compared to the figures in May 2017, the men's participation in workforce has not changed and been measured as 72.6 percent while the women's participation in workforce has increased by 0.5 points and become 34.4 percent. (TP/SD)
