The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has announced the unemployment figures for February 2018. According to the data, the unemployment rate across Turkey has become 10.6 percent in February 2018.
The number of unemployed people in Turkey has fallen by 546 thousand people in comparison with the same month last year and has become 3 million 354 thousand people. As for the unemployment rate across Turkey, it has fallen by 2 points compared to the figures in February 2017 and fallen by 0.2 point in comparison with January 2018.
The unemployment rate in young population (ages 15-24) has increased by 4.3 percent and become 19 percent. Between the ages of 15 and 64, the unemployment rate has fallen by 2 points and become 10.9 percent.
1 percent increase in women's participation in labor force
Labor force in February 2018 has increased by 665 thousand people compared to the same month last year and has reached 31 million 520 thousand people. As for the rate of participation in labor force, it has been measured as 52.2 percent, indicating an increase by 0.4 point in comparison with the figures in February 2017.
The data has also demonstrated that when compared with February 2017, the participation of men in labor force has decreased by 0.2 point in February 2018, becoming 71.5 percent, and the participation of women in labor force has increased by 1 percent and become 33.3 percent.
In February 2018, the number of employed people has increased by 1 million 210 thousand people when compared to the same month last year and has reached 28 million 166 thousand people. The rate of employment has also increased by 1.3 point and become 46.6 percent.
The data announced by the TurkStat has also shown that the share of agriculture in the rate of employed people has fallen by one point in comparison with February 2017.
In February 2018, the number of people who are employed without any affiliation with a social security institution has fallen by 0,6 point compared to the same month last year and become 32.3 percent. (TP/SD)
