People's Democratic Party (HDP) MP Abdullah Koç brought up the suspicious death in custody of Ahmet Burgur in the parliament.
Koç gave details about the death of Burgur. Accordingly 39 year-old Ahmet Burgur suspiciously died while in custody in the Doğubeyazıt Police Headquarters on February 23. It was claimed that he committed suicide while in custody. Burgur's dead body was taken to Ağrı hospital for autopsy.
The preliminary autopsy report found that there were traces of assault on his body and concluded that the definitive cause of death could be decided upon after the toxicological, histopathological and biological examinations.
Burgur's family informed that he was taken into custody after a quarrel with one person and lost his life suspiciously while in custody in the police headquarters and that he did not have any possibilities to commit suicide.
HDP MP therefore directed a parliamentary question to the Interior Minister, Süleyman Soylu and requested that the incident be brought to light. Koç asked if there was, or if there is going to be any investigation started for the police officers. The MP also asked the grounds for the claim that Burgur has committed suicide, and also if there were any police officers/chiefs detained or arrested, or if there is going to be any. (AS/PE)
