The police officer who was driving the armored vehicle that ran over and killed a seven-year-old child in the southeastern province of Şırnak is still on duty, the head of the Şırnak Bar has said.
The deaths caused by armored vehicles cannot be considered as accidents and effective investigations are needed to prevent them from becoming "ordinary," Rojhat Dilsiz noted.
The officer who is responsible for Mihraç Miroğlu's death testified three days after the incident and was released after giving his statement. He said he did not run over the child on purpose.
The İdil Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating the incident as a "fatal traffic accident."
At least 20 children were killed after being run over by armored vehicles in the predominantly Kurdish-populated eastern and southeastern provinces over the past decade, according to the Human Rights Association (İHD). (AÖ/VK)
