Police fine Şenyaşar Family over their banner

Emine Şenyaşar lost her spouse and two sons in an attack launched by the security guards and relatives of İbrahim Yıldız from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Urfa. She and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, have been demanding justice for 158 days.

On the 157th day of their "Justice Watch" in front of the Urfa Courthouse yesterday (August 12), the police once again intervened into the sit-in protest of the family, who had been detained several times before.

Police officers fined Ferit Şenyaşar over the banner that the family had hung on the barriers, citing the Article 43 of the Law of Misdemeanor.

As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Ferit and Emine Şenyaşar came in front of the Urfa Courthouse for the "Justice Watch" and they wanted to hang a banner on the barriers in front of the courthouse. In response to this, the police tried to take Ferit Şenyaşar into custody. Emine Şenyaşar objected to her son's detention and the police did not detain him.

Mother Emine Şenyaşar started a sit-in protest in front of the courthouse by taking the banner. Lamenting there, Şenyaşar told the people around what they, as a family, had been going through.

Protesting the police prevention, Emine Şenyaşar said, "Why are you always around me? Go and catch the killers. We have been seeking justice here for days. Don't you have any conscience and mercy? You have stolen our banners. Now you are trying to steal this piece of paper. What harm does it do to anyone? There is no state left. Could a killer be an MP? Enough is enough. How much longer will you torture us?"

What happened?

During the election campaign of ruling AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in Suruç, Urfa on June 14, 2018, an attack turned into an armed conflict, which claimed the lives of Yıldız's brother Mehmet Şah Yıldız, shop owner Hacı Esvet Şenyaşar and his sons Adil and Celal Şenyaşar.

Having lost his father and two brothers and been wounded himself in the incident, Fadıl Şenyaşar was discharged from hospital and detained on June 17. He was then arrested and sent to prison.

Demanding justice for two sons, husband and her arrested son, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar, who survived the attack, have been keeping a "justice watch" in front of the courthouse. (KÖ/SD)
