In the armed attack carried out by Onur Gencer against the İzmir office of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) on June 17, Deniz Poyraz was reportedly tortured before and after her killing.
Speaking to bianet about the issue, lawyer Türkan Aslan from the HDP Central Office Law Office has underlined that there are findings of torture in the dead body examination minutes prepared on Poyraz.
Aslan has noted that there were knife marks on Deniz Poyraz's body as well as broken ribs and damage to internal organs:
In the first examination conducted by the Forensic Medical doctor in the HDP provincial building, it is said, 'In the external examination, it was seen that there was one gunshot wound in the occipital bone in the head, four wounds in total around the knee and upper side of the left leg, two wounds in the mid-lower side of right leg and a smooth-line open wound in temporo occipital bone going nearly 7-8 centimeters deep and with a broken bone underneath...'

'She has a cut in her head'
Lawyer Türkan Aslan has explained it as follows:
"These findings show us that Deniz Poyraz was shot several times. Moreover, it is indicated that there is also a wound with smooth lines going 7-8 centimeters deep in her head. To make sense of this during the examination at the scene of the incident was not possible for us.
'Two clasp knives found on him'
"However, in our external meetings with Forensic Medical experts, it was indicated that this 7-8 centimeter wound with smooth lines going deep into the scalp could be inflicted only with a sharp object.
"In the light of this medical opinion, we conclude that both a firearm and knife were used in the incident. That two clasp knives were found during the search on the assailant-murderer confirms our view as well.
'Internal organs damaged'
"Calmly recounting the incident in his statements, the assailant-murderer says that after he inflicted the gunshot wound, he went away and came back, shooting at her and kicking her several times.
"These kicks damaged her internal organs of Deniz Poyraz. When all these findings are taken together, it is concluded that the assailant-murderer tortured her."
'A calm professional murderer'
Lawyer Aslan has emphasized that the assailant was "not an ordinary murderer who committed a murder in rage."
"We are faced with a calm murderer. It was not a murder committed in rage. He is highly professional. He apparently wanted to try his training in Syria on Deniz," lawyer Aslan has noted further.
'No in-depth investigation'
Türkan Aslan has raised concerns that "nothing is done in the investigation into the incident" and briefly added the following:
"Considering that the assailant was referred to the prosecutor's office and arrested in less than 24 hours, it shows that no in-depth and effective investigation is being carried out into the incident.
"We have submitted petitions to the prosecutor of the investigation regarding the deficiencies that we have identified. We have demanded that the investigation be extended in line with our requests.
'DNA test should have been done'
"Lastly, during our talks with the Forensic Medical doctors, we expressed our request for a DNA test on both the knives found on the assailant and the cartridge bullets found in the scene of the incident.
"However, all these inquiries and probes must be done in an ex officio manner by the prosecutor's office. If these were not done, then, it means spoliation of evidence.
'No search minutes on the bag'
"Moreover, we have the minutes regarding the search conducted on the assailant, but there are no minutes as to the search conducted in his bag. We do not know what was in that big, bulgy bag. There could not have been a single gun in that bag.
"As the proceedings against the assailant were completed and he was arrested too quickly for such an investigation, it makes us concerned that the investigation is not carried out in an in-depth manner. So, we have developed nearly 60 requests and demanded an in-depth inquiry.
"Because only in this way will it be possible to reveal the instigators and abettors of this assailant as well as the political and organizational structure behind the attack." (RT/SD)
