It has been three years since Rabia Naz Vatan (11) was found wounded in front of her house in Giresun's Eynesil and lost her life at hospital.
The İstanbul Bar Association, which prepared a report regarding her suspicious death in July 2020, has shared the report again, attaching the note, "Today marks the third anniversary of Rabia Naz's death. We have been unable to solve this death after three years."
In its statement about the issue, the bar has underlined that "the decision of non-prosecution given by the prosecutor's office did not satisfy the consciences," adding, "We, as lawyers, are not satisfied, either."
"We reopened the closed file. We decided to leave a note in history, explaining why we are not satisfied. We know that the journeys that began with suspicions will reach the material fact, even if it sometimes takes years," the İstanbul Bar Association has said. "For this reason, we see our efforts as 'a note taken down in history'," the Bar has indicated further.
"Forming a commission mostly consisting of our young colleagues, we settled in Eynesil. We identified the deficiencies in the investigation and found the mistakes. We present the report on Rabia Naz, with an entirely legal content and objective value, to the public," it has added.
Message by father Vatan
Şaban Vatan, who has been struggling to solve the suspicious death of his daughter, has also shared a message on social media.
"We want everyone who has the slightest conscience to ask for justice for our Rabia Naz," father Vatan has said.
We Will Stop Femicides Platform has also tweeted, "Rabia Naz suspiciously died three years ago. They said that an 11-year-old girl committed suicide. They did not conduct an effective investigation. We have been asking for three years: What happened to Rabia Naz? We will keep asking this question. We will reveal the death of Rabia Naz with our struggle."
What happened?Rabia Naz Vatan was found injured in front of her home in Eynesil, Giresun on April 13, 2018. While the police records said that the girl committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of her family's home, her father claimed that she was killed. "A car hit my daughter but the hit was not strong enough to result in her death. Those who hit Rabia Naz then brought her near my house to make the incident look like my daughter committed suicide. My daughter lost her life because of blood loss," he said. Vatan said that the person who hit her daughter by a car was the nephew of Eynesil Mayor Coşkun Somuncuoğlu, according to the information he obtained. Vatan also claimed that the case was covered up after the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) Giresun MP Nurettin Canikli intervened in. Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu met with Vatan in February on the killing of his daughter. He told bianet after that the meeting took 10 minutes. Giresun Chief Public Prosecutor's Office said on Mach 20 that the Görele Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting the investigation into the incident and the search for evidence is still continuing. On March 21, Şaban Vatan was taken into custody upon the complaint of his brother and referred to a mental institution for a mental health check. Father Vatan was then released from detention the next day, on March 22. On March 26, father Vatan deposed at the security directorate upon the criminal complaint of AKP MP Nurettin Canikli On April 10, the Giresun Penal Court of Peace has ruled that Şaban Vatan shall be hospitalized in Samsun Mental Health Institution to determine whether he is mentally sound or not. Vatan has referred to the verdict as "a downright injustice." On July 16, 2020, the investigation was dismissed by the prosecutor's office. |
