10 people, including Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Cizre District Co-Chair Güler Tunç and HDP's dismissed Cizre Co-Mayor Berivan Kutlu, were taken into custody in house raids in Cizre district in Turkey's Kurdish-majority southeastern province of Şırnak today (November 9).
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), the raids were conducted by counterterrorism teams and the doors of Tunç and Kutlu were broken down during the raids. As of 5 p.m., the following people were in detention:
Dismissed Cizre Co-Mayor Kutlu, HDP Cizre Co-Chair Tunç, Municipal Council members Ali Tanış, Mesut Üçkaç, Mesut Nart, Sabri Erdoğmuş, Aziz Uygur and HDP members Cihan Ölmez, Reşit Çağlı, Emin Kalkan.
Nine investigations against Tunç
While nine investigation have been launched against Güler Tunç so far, the last investigation against the politician was over her visit to the graves of her husband and brother-in-law Mehmet Tunç, who had lost their lives during the period of curfews in the region in 2015-2016. (TP/SD)
