As the bar association chairs marching to the capital city of Ankara in protest of the planned amendments to the Attorneys' Act were prevented from entering the city, lawyers from the Ankara Bar Association went to the area in support of their colleagues yesterday evening (June 22).
The police attacked the lawyers who came to support the bar association chairs at the entrance to the city.
As reported by the ANKA News Agency, after it started to rain at around 8.45 p.m. yesterday, the lawyers who were inside the area barricaded by the police tried to take shelter in a nearby construction site.
The lawyers and journalists were now outside the area surrounded by police barricades. The police intervened to disperse them.

As reported by the Mezopotamya Agency (MA), the journalists and lawyers who stepped outside the police barricades were not taken back in.
While some lawyers fell on the ground during the intervention, some of them were battered by the police. The MA has further reported that among the lawyers battered by the police was also Lawyers for Freedom Association (ÖHD) Ankara Branch Chair Şevin Kaya. Kaya was pushed, made to fall on the ground and kicked by the police.
The bar chairs asked the lawyers who came in support to return home. The chairs said that they would wait till morning.
