Caziye Duman, the Mayor of Saray District in Van from the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), has been taken into custody with 14 others.
Police officers conducted a search at the houses of the detained earlier today (November 1) and seized the digital materials.
HDP's Duman was elected as the Mayor of Saray by receiving 61 percent of the votes in the last local elections on March 31, 2019.
Among the detained are also Edibe Batur, an executive from the HDP Provincial Organization; Rojbin Akdağ, HDP's Mayor candidate for Gürpınar in March 31 elections; Mukaddes Karakoç, the 27th-term Van MP candidate from the HDP in June 24 elections; Handan Karakoyun, Edremit Municipal Council Member; Berken Kızılboğa, Tuşba Vice Mayor; Hawar Derya and Hatice Akdağ from the Free Women's Movement (TJA); Peace Mother Pervin Özgür; Neriman Uğur, an executive from the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Provincial Organization.
Making a statement about the detentions, Van Provincial Security Directorate has announced that 15 people including Mayor Duman have been taken into custody on the alleged ground that "they have been engaged in activities within the terrorist organization's women's field structure."
Co-Mayor prevented from taking office detained
Prevented from taking office as the Mayor of Dağpınar in Kars because he was previously discharged by a Statutory Decree, HDP's Abubekir Erkmen was also taken into custody earlier today.
