The Governorship of Van has announced that one soldier has lost his life and two soldiers have been wounded after fire was opened to soldiers patrolling in the district of Çaldıran in Turkey's eastern province of Van.
Releasing a statement, the Governorship said, "Fire was opened from the Iranian territory to our soldiers carrying out patrol activities in Çaldıran District Uzunyol Border Post and Soğuksu Border Post at around 10.00-10.15 p.m."
Large scale operation launched in the region
After the soldiers fired back, a conflict erupted. While one soldier has lost his life in the ensuing conflict, two wounded soldiers have been referred to Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Medical Faculty Hospital.
