The friends of arrested businessperson Osman Kavala came together in Beyoğlu Cezayir Restaurant in İstanbul to celebrate his 62nd birthday yesterday (October 2). The letter prepared to be sent to the Ministry of Justice was signed by his friends.
His friends also wrote on the journal and prepared a book for the 62nd birthday of Osman Kavala, who has been behind bars for 701 days.
Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu, who brought the book to Kavala in Silivri Prison, said,
"He was very touched. He took the book in his hands and looked at it. He was not wearing his glasses. I gave him mine. After looking through it, he closed the book and told me 'It is worth being imprisoned'."
The book consists of letters, articles, poems, pictures, photographs and collages by his friends from high school and university, artists, writers and representatives from civil society. (TP/SD)
