Police attacked and detained the Anti-Capitalist Muslims, including writer and theologist İhsan Eliaçık, who wanted to set a fast-breaking table at the Galatasaray Square in Taksim, İstanbul yesterday (May 6).
The detained have been released early today after their routine health checks at Bayrampaşa State Hospital.
'They tore tables apart, detained people by dragging'
The Anti-Capitalist Muslims posted the following message on their social media account regarding the incident:
"When we gathered to set our earth table in front of Galatasaray High School to break our fast, the police attacked us by saying that we could not break our fast there. They detained our friends by battering them.
"The police did not allow our fast-breaking table that we have been setting in front of Galatasaray High School every year.
"Despite all attacks and preventions, we set the earth table in Taksim and broke our fast. Our friends are being taken to the Security Directorate in Vatan. Allah is greater than the state. It is Allah's property."
Speaking after being released, Eliaçık has also said,
"Today, we faced intervention in front of GS High School where we went for the Earth Table in fast-breaking time. They tore the tables apart. There were detentions by dragging people. Eight people, four of them women and four of us men, were detained. We were released at 00.55 a.m. We are fine."
Eliaçık has added, "We will never obey the Palace. We will never sit on the table of the tyrant. We will continue the tradition of earth tables, which started with Prophet İbrahim, despite all pressures and preventions. Our path is the path of all revolutionary Prophets. There is no rest for the weary." (AS/SD)
