The imprisoned former Co-Chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Selahattin Demirtaş has won the lawsuit of immaterial compensation that he filed against the Treasury. The Treasury has been sentenced to pay an immaterial compensation of 10 thousand Turkish Lira (approx. 1,800 Euro) to Selahattin Demirtaş.
Selahattin Demirtaş filed a lawsuit of material and immaterial compensation of 750 thousand Turkish Lira to the Treasury on the grounds that he was unlawfully detained and arrested in violation of the provisions of the Law on Criminal Court; the court to hear his case was determined 11 months later; he appeared before judge after 13 months; and his arrest was not investigated for 4 months.
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency, the Diyarbakır 3rd Heavy Penal Court has ruled for the partial acceptance of Demirtaş's lawsuit of immaterial compensation on the ground that his arrest was not investigated in the 30-day period. As per the ruling of the court, the Treasury shall pay a compensation of 10 thousand Turkish Lira to Demirtaş.
The court has rejected the lawsuit of material compensation filed by Demirtaş.
Selahattin Demirtaş was arrested on November 4, 2016. With the indictment prepared by combining 31 summaries of proceedings, a court case was filed against Demirtaş at the Diyarbakır 8th Heavy Penal Court on January 10, 2017. Demirtaş has been posting messages on his official Twitter account since September 16, 2017. (ÇT/SD)
