Academic year 2017-2018 began this week.
5,717 academics have been discharged, only 140 of them have been reinstated to their jobs.
Nine statutory decrees enacted under the State of Emergency included academic discharges. 140 figures included in this list were reinstated to their jobs through another decree.
According to stats by the Higher Education Council, the number of academic members was 155,256 in 2016. There are 185 universities eight of which haven’t started the academic year in Turkey.
Discharges by cities
Discharges occurred in all 81 cities. The highest number of discharges was seen in İstanbul with 485 academics, which was followed by Ankara with 469.
The greatest number of academic discharge was seen at Süleyman Demirel University with 240 academics. Gazi University followed it with 226. (BK/TK)
