Ankara Governorship Bans Demonstrations, Activities

Ankara Governorship has banned all activities for a month due to the demonstrations held in protest of arrest of educators Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça.
The governorship had previously announced a similar ban on May 26 and July 5. In the wake of the arrest of Gülmen and Özakça, being discharged through statutory decree Veli Saçlık and Acun Karadağ have been continuing their protest for 267 days on Yüksel Street. Police intervene in the protest every day, the protesters have been subjected to violence.
The governorship in its statement briefly said:
“Intelligence has been received that hunger strike, sit-in will be staged in order to support DHKP-C Public Laborers’ Front (KEC) member Nuriye Gülmen and Semih Özakça, who were arrested during their hunger strike which they went on demanding that they be reinstated to their jobs.
“It has been evaluated that DEAŞ (ISIS) and similar terror organizations may carry out attacks against participants and citizens, which would threaten public safety”. (AS/TK)
