The first trial of the case of Dilek Doğan, who was shot to death aged 25 during a police raid in İstanbul’s Sarıyer district, will be heard on March 8.
New footage of the moment of the shooting is included in the case file.
In the 3-minute footage shot by police officers from the İstanbul Security Directorate, the police who used the camera explains that Doğan was shot by a special operation police officer.
Doğan’s father’s voice is also in the footage
At the time of the incident, Doğan’s father is heard saying, “How could you shoot my daughter, how could you shoot the apple of my eye”.
Then it is heard that the police request handcuffs upon Doğan’s elder brother reacting to the police.
After the police saying “Just grab a handcuff and come over here”, the officer who used the camera says “Now we are in Sarıyer. The special operation shot someone accidentally. It has become a mess here”.
Afterwards, the same police officer informing his chief angrily says, “How could the special operation do this”.
What happened?
On October 18, Dilek Doğan had been shot during a police operation and then was taken to the hospital.
On October 23, the investigation was issued “confidentiality order”.
İstanbul Police Department made a statement 32 hours after the incident and blamed the Doğan Family for making an uproar while Dilek’s family told the police opened fire against her.
Being injured in the lung, Doğan lost her life in Okmeydanı Education and Research Hospital in intensive care unit on October 25, 2015.
The indictment concerning the incident was accepted on December 12, 2015.
The police officer Y.G. has been charged with “willful murder by negligent act”. (AS/TK)
