Health Minister Fahrettin Koca made a statement on Coronavirus on his social media account, announcing the presence of the "Eris" variant of the virus in Turkey, emphasizing that it is not a matter of concern:
"In an examination conducted at our Reference Laboratory, we detected the Eris variant in 9 individuals. They have had foreign contact and are from the same province. We will continue with our current precautions in our daily lives.
The Eris variant, known for its low virulence, has been identified. It was likely to emerge in our country as it is prevalent in other countries. We will protect our elderly and chronic patients."
The Coronavirus variant Eris, which has been identified in more than 50 countries worldwide, is also spreading in European countries.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, had previously stated that there is a concerning increase in Coronavirus cases before the winter season in the northern hemisphere. He also mentioned an increase in deaths in some regions of the Middle East and Asia, as well as an increase in intensive care admissions in Europe. (AS/PE)
