Since January 26, 2021, the Health Ministry of Turkey has been sharing the number of COVID-19 vaccines administered across the country on a provisional basis with a regularly updated map.
According to the data shared by the Ministry, as of 7.45 p.m. on June 28, 1 million 35 thousand 851 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, either Sinovac or Pfizer-BioNTech, were administered in Turkey in 24 hours.
While the number of people who received the first dose was 33 million 358 thousand 488 in total, the number of people who received both doses was 14 million 952 thousand 476 in total. The total number of vaccine doses administered thus far was 48 million 310 thousand 964.
Since Friday (June 25), the COVID-19 vaccination appointment system has been open for people aged 18 and over.
'Rate of decrease has slowed down'
Health Minister Koca announced the number of weekly coronavirus cases per 100 thousand people by provinces yesterday (June 28).
According to this, the weekly number of COVID-19 cases was 54.30 in İstanbul, 83.4 in Ankara and 27.40 in İzmir in the week of June 19-25, 2021. The provinces which saw the highest decrease in their weekly case numbers were Bolu, Kastamonu, Muş, Yozgat and Tokat.
While the lowest number of COVID-19 cases was seen in Osmaniye, Adıyaman, Hatay, Adana and Edirne provinces, the highest number of weekly cases per 100 thousand people was witnessed in the provinces of Ağrı, Eskişehir, Kütahya, Bitlis and Rize.
The weekly numbers of COVID-19 cases per 100 thousand people were as follows by provinces in the week of June 19-25, 2021:

Sharing a brief message on Twitter, Fahrettin Koca said, "Even though the rate of increase in the number of cases has slowed down, this situation is not an obstacle to normalization. Vaccination is a must to return to the days with no concerns. Let's get vaccinated."
'60-70 million must receive both doses'
On the other side, the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) has underlined that the critical threshold to stop the outbreak is 75 percent. That is, 75 percent of the population or at least 60-70 million should be vaccinated with both doses to stop the COVID-19 outbreak in Turkey.

Vaccination began in Turkey on January 13
The first COVID-19 vaccine was administered in Turkey on January 13, 2021 and Health Minister Fahrettin Koca was the first person to receive the vaccine in Turkey. To date, Turkey has been giving the Sinovac and BioNTech jabs, and signed an agreement for the Sputnik V vaccine.
Over 2.6 billion doses in the world
According to the figures shared by the World Health Organization (WHO), 2,660,756,547 doses of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines were administered across the world as of June 27, 2021.
