Turkey vaccinates nearly 360 thousand people in 24 hours

Since January 26, 2021, the Health Ministry of Turkey has been sharing the number of COVID-19 vaccines administered across the country on a provisional basis with a regularly updated map.

According to the data shared by the Ministry, as of 7.45 p.m. on June 7, 358 thousand 308 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, either that of Sinovac or Pfizer-BioNTech, were administered in Turkey in 24 hours.

While the number of people who received the first dose was 17 million 847 thousand 112 in total, the number of people who received both doses was 13 million 205 thousand 812 in total. The total number of vaccine doses administered thus far was 31 million 52 thousand 924.

The vaccination rates in the 3 metropolitan cities were as follows:

* İstanbul - The number of first doses: 3 million 33 thousand 94; the number of second doses: 2 million 134 thousand 889; the total number of vaccine doses administered so far: 5 million 167 thousand 983

* Ankara - The number of first doses: 1 million 492 thousand 994; the number of second doses: 1 million 114 thousand 59; the total number of vaccine doses administered so far: 2 million 607 thousand 53

* İzmir - The number of first doses: 1 million 211 thousand 539; the number of second doses: 910 thousand 887; the total number of vaccine doses administered in the city so far: 2 million 122 thousand 426

Turkey ranks 10th in the world

As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), Turkey ranks 10th in the world in terms of the number of vaccines. According to the agency, the number of vaccines per 100 people is 36.59 in Turkey.

The first COVID-19 vaccine was administered in Turkey on January 13, 2021 and Health Minister Fahrettin Koca was the first person to receive the vaccine in Turkey. To date, Turkey has been giving the Sinovac and BioNTech jabs, and signed an agreement for the Sputnik V vaccine.

Nearly 2 billion doses in the world

According to the figures shared by the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 billion 900 million 955 thousand 505 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered across the world as of June 7, 2021.
