As part of the 'gradual normalization' steps in Turkey, face-to-face education resumes at secondary and high school as of today (June 7).
Getting online education for some time as part of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic measures, the students of secondary schools and high schools have started attending their classes at schools.
Before entering the schools, they lined up in front of the buildings by keeping their distance and observing the mask rules. Following the ceremony, the students entered the school buildings in line.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), Kaan Tuna, a student from İstanbul, expressed his happiness to be at school again: "I am very excited. But I feel really uncomfortable when I wear a mask. The school is still so nice. I cannot understand a thing from live lessons. I have missed school so much, I am happy that I have reunited with my friends."
Burhan Sakallıoğlu, another student, also said that he is very excited to be at school again: "I have missed school so much. I have reunited with my friends. I have seen my old friends."
Ayşenaz Öztürk, an 8th grade student from the Edirne Kırkpınar Ağası Alper Yazoğlu Secondary School in northwestern Turkey, said that she is very happy that the schools have reopened: "It is a very short span of time. But we have still acquired the opportunity to make up for [classes]. There will not be any problems as long as we abide by the mask and distance rules."
Beyza Işık, a 7th grade student from the same secondary school, also said, "We have not come to school for nearly 1.5 years. The schools will be closed a few weeks later as it is the summer break. I have missed school, to be honest. I will never take off my mask. I will pay heed to my social distance and pay attention to cleaning." (AÖ/SD)
