The Turkish Medical Association (TTB) has announced that in the week of April 14-20, 2021, the number of deaths in 21 provinces of Turkey which constitute 55 percent of the country's population was 58 percent higher than the average number in the past three years.
According to the statement of the TTB, İstanbul saw a thousand 117 extra deaths in this one-week period.
In a message shared on its Twitter account with two statistics attached, the TTB has said that when a projection is made for the entire country based on the population and incidence in these 21 provinces, the average number of extra deaths is 500, while the official number of daily deaths announced by the Ministry of Interior was 308 in the same period.
In the table shared by the TTB, İstanbul saw a thousand 117 extra deaths last week, which is some 80 percent higher than the average in the last five years. "Talking about a drop in the number of cases in this picture means openly deceiving society," the TTB has protested.
According to the TTB, the numbers of extra deaths recorded in the 21 provinces on April 14-20 were as follows:
İstanbul 1,117, İzmir 214, Bursa 187, Kocaeli 131, Ankara 92, Konya 70, Malatya 65, Gaziantep 59, Kahramanmaraş 41, Sakarya 39, Çorum 36, Sivas 35, Trabzon 33, Elazığ 30, Hatay 23, Bandırma 21, Tekirdağ 19, Denizli 18, Osmaniye 17, Kayseri and Uşak 12. (RT/SD)
