All public transportation systems in İstanbul will work in full capacity between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu announced on Twitter last night (April 13).
The decision was taken in accordance with an expanded weekday curfew at 7.00 p.m. — previously 9.00 p.m. — and last until 5 a.m.
Also, public transport cards (İstanbulkart) of those younger than 18 and older than 65 will be suspended, he said. The people in these age groups have been barred from using public transport as part of the new measures.
Amid a sharp surge in coronavirus cases, President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced a two-week "partial lockdown" yesterday, tightening some of the measures that have been in place since late November.
The new measures are effective as of today. (EKN/VK)
