Turkey's flag carrier Turkish Airlines announced on Saturday (January 2) that flights from the United Kingdom (UK) to Turkey have been suspended under travel restrictions due to the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the flights from Turkey to the UK, and from the UK to other countries, including the transit flights, continue as planned, it noted.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), on Friday (January 1), Turkey's Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said that the new virus strain was detected in 15 people who entered the country from the UK, and announced that entries from the UK to Turkey were temporarily suspended.
When passengers open the official webpage of Turkish Airlines, they see the following information regarding the flights: "Information for passengers arriving in Turkey from abroad or, transiting through Turkey and travelling to other countries: "In accordance with the regulation in Turkey, passengers arriving in Turkey from abroad are required to have taken a PCR test with a negative result within 72 hours prior to their scheduled flight departure as of December 30, 2020 (at midnight) in the country of departure, and the test result should be submitted during check-in. Passengers below 6 are not required to submit a test result. "Transit passengers are not required to submit a PCR test in Turkey; however, they are advised to review the flight restrictions applied by the destination country regarding the PCR test requirements, age limits and the duration. "Passengers failing to submit a digital or paper copy of a negative PCR test result are not permitted to board the flights. "There are no flight restrictions for passengers travelling from Turkey to The United Kingdom, Denmark and South Africa at the moment but we advise you to review the travel news page provided by IATA or the travel information hub provided by the Star Alliance for details. "Passengers departing from The United Kingdom, Denmark and South Africa, transiting through Turkey and travelling to other countries: "In accordance with the regulations in Turkey, passengers departing from Denmark and South Africa, transiting through Turkey and travelling to other countries are not required to submit a PCR test result in Turkey yet they are advised to review the flight restrictions applied by the destination country regarding the PCR test requirements, age limits and the duration. "However, all passengers arriving Turkey through third countries who visited The UK within the last 10 days will be quarantined for 14 days at places selected by the Turkish official authorities following their arrival. Passengers of 6 years and older under these conditions, will be required, before boarding, to submit a negative PCR test result done within the last 72-hours prior to departure." * Click here for detailed information |
