The Federation of Journalists of Turkey (TGF) has announced that 13 journalists have lost their lives due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) since the onset of the outbreak in the country in mid-March.
In a statement released by the TGF, it has been stressed that journalists are among the occupational groups most affected by the pandemic.
Underlining the serious increase in the number of cases and deaths, the TGF has noted that journalists contract the virus while they are doing their job and they are one of the risk groups in that regard.
"As they are face to face with people working for the public good, bureaucracy and politicians, our colleagues must be vaccinated against COVID-19 right after healthcare workers so that they can work in an healthy environment," TGF Chair Yılmaz Karaca has indicated.
According to the statement, the following journalists have lost their lives since the outbreak of the pandemic in Turkey:

*Hacı Bozkurt / Adıyaman - Demirören News Agency (DHA)
*Ferhat Koç / Ankara - Milli Gazete
*Hasan Can / TRT - Konya Ereğli
*Süleyman Usta / Rize - Sarıyer Newspaper, Çay TV
*İbrahim Toru / Urfa - Kanal Urfa TV
*İlhan Erk / Adana / Sports Columnist
