The Health Ministry yesterday (August 9) announced 1,182 new coronavirus cases and 1,103 new recoveries.
The number of total cases climbed to 240,804 with 223,759 recoveries. The country's death toll rose to 5,844 with 15 new fatalities.
Compared to May, the rate of people in contact with Covid-19 patients to turn into cases rises across Turkey by 1.3 times, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter.

Turkey on Sunday confirmed 1,103 additional recoveries from the novel coronavirus, raising the tally to 223,759, according to Koca.
The country registered 1,182 new infections of COVID-19, bringing the caseload to 240,804, he added.
Healthcare professionals conducted 61,446 tests for the disease in the same period, bringing the tally to over 5.26 million.
Hospitalization criteria has been changed
The Ministry has changed the hospitalization criteria for Covid-19 patients, announcing that people with fever, cough, sore throat, headache, muscle-joint pain, abdominal pain or diarrhea, smell or taste disturbances will be treated at home from now on, according to a report by daily Hürriyet.
Patients will be hospitalized if they have respiratory difficulties, shortness of breath, and problems in oral intake, according to the report.
Patients with light and mild pneumonia will also be treated at home from now on, the report said.
