The Union of Cinema and TV Actors stated in an announcement made today that the monetary fine and blocking of the broadcast of the TV series "Cranberry Sorbet" for five weeks imposed on Show TV by the Radio and Television Supreme Council was very concerning.
The union invited the members of the council to review their decision in an announcement made today.
An "Islamaphobia documentary" was broadcast instead of the new episode of the popular series on April 14 after the decision by the council.
"This is censorship, it cannot be accepted"
The union said, in its announcement, "From an objective point of view, being against violence against women requires also standing against the source of motivation of such violence. Censoring the TV series and broadcasting an Islamaphobia documentary instead reflects the reactionary stance of RTÜK, and it is not acceptable.
"Freedom of expression is a universal right and it cannot be prevented by an authority or by means of censorship. RTÜK will be responsible for a possible loss of employment in the team working for the TV series.
"We invite the RTÜK members to review the subjective decision they have taken and to correct this mistake in the shortest possible time." (EMK/PE)
