Head of the European Federation of Journalists (EFJ) protested President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, during an official visit today (september 8).
Maja Sever displayed a placard reading "#FreeTurkeyJournalists" on a street that was closed to traffic because of Erdoğan's visit.
"The problem is not the blocked streets, it is Erdoğan. In Türkiye, 38 journalists are currently in prison. According to a RSF report, 90 percent of the national media is under the control of the government," she later wrote on Twitter.
The EFJ tweeted, "Turkish President Erdogan is in #Zagreb today. EFJ President @SeverMaja didn't miss the opportunity to tell him #FreeTurkeyJournalists #JournalismIsNotACrime."
