The stairs painted in rainbow colors by the students of Middle East Technical University (METU) in the capital city of Ankara have been painted in gray by the university administration. Students have announced that they will paint the stairs back in colors today (March 30).
In a tweet posted on "ODTÜ Savunulmalıdır" (METU Must Be Defended) account, it is said, "The campus stairs colored by METU students yesterday were painted in gray by METU administration towards morning."
Call to color the stairs again
Students have also announced that they will meet at 1 p.m. today to paint the stairs back in colors. In a message shared on Twitter, it is stated that "the stairs were first painted in rainbow colors during the Gezi Resistance of 2013 and their paint has recently been refreshed."
"The appointed administration of the METU painted the stairs in the dormitories' area in gray," the students have said, calling on the METU students to gather at the entrance of dormitories area near Devrim (Revolution) stadium to paint the stairs back in rainbow colors. (EKN/SD)
