The Kocaeli MP of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Dr. Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu has submitted a parliamentary inquiry into the investigations launched by the İstanbul and Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices against "the people who have threatened the economic security."
In the inquiry addressed to the Vice President Fuat Oktay, Gergerlioğlu has asked whether there exists an offence called "threatening the economic security." He has also asked on which legal document it is based, if there exists such an offence.
Earlier today (August 13), the İstanbul and Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices launched investigations against "the social media accounts that share news, printed and visual media which serve to the economic attacks as well as the person or persons who threaten the economic security."
"What does 'threatening economic security' mean?"
HDP MP Gergerlioğlu has asked the Vice President Oktay the meaning of the expression "posts that threaten the economic security."
He has also referred to the claims that "the investigations against the people who have allegedly shared social media posts which threaten the economic security have been launched in an attempt to suppress the opposition."
Asking the exact number of people, against whom an investigation has been launched on the related charge, Gergerlioğlu has also questioned, "Which posts did these people share to threaten the economic security?"
Gergerlioğlu has also asked questions regarding the criteria to take into consideration for not threatening the economic security while commenting on economy and what measures the government has taken to protect the freedom of expression after such investigations have been launched. (BK/SD)
