Turkey's Black Sea province of Bartın was hit by heavy rainfall yesterday evening (August 10). The rainfall has led to floods and landslides in some parts of the province. While vehicles have been dragged by water, several houses and workplaces have been flooded.
While the heavy rainfall has also been effective in Kastamonu and Sinop as well, a wooden house has also almost completely collapsed in Bartın. The elder woman in the house has been caught up in water. Search and rescue teams have been referred to the scene of the incident. The efforts to find the missing woman were still ongoing as of 10 am today
Making a statement about the heavy rainfall and floods in the Black Sea region, Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu has indicated that "in some parts of the region, the water level has reached 3-4 meter height and citizens are waiting at the roof of their houses, according to the information given by the governor's offices and sub-governor's offices."
Noting that some hospitals will also be evacuated, the Minister has said that the neighboring provinces have offered support in that regard.
Bartın
The heavy rainfall has especially had a negative effect on daily life in Ulus district and its Kumluca and Apdipaşa towns in Bartın.
The highway between Bartın and Karabük provinces has also collapsed in Yenihan, a vehicle was caught up in water. Two people one board have been rescued by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) teams and citizens. Stranded in houses due to the floods, 20 people have been rescued by highway and municipality excavators.
As the Herkeme Stream has overflowed its banks in Zafer village in Kumluca town, some vehicles have been caught up in water, the ground floors of houses and workplaces have been flooded and some citizens have been stranded in their houses due to the flood.
Making a statement about the issue, Bartın Governor Sinan Güner has said that they started receiving first reports about the heavy rainfall and floods at around 3 in the morning today. Sharing information about the search and rescue efforts, the Governor has announced that all bridges in the Akören Söküler village in Kumluca and Zafer village in Ulus have collapsed.
Noting that they have asked for support from the Governor's Office of the neighboring Karabük province, Güner has said that the teams are now trying to come to Bartın by using the roads that can still be used.
He has also indicated that nearly 15 people stranded in houses at risk of demolition and vehicles have been rescued by teams. The Governor has confirmed that one person has been missing in the province, noting that the search efforts are underway for the woman.
According to Güner's statement, one person also died of a heart attack, but the related person was not caught up in water.
Kastamonu
Kastamonu, Turkey's another province in the Black Sea region, has also been hit by heavy rainfall. Two vehicles have been trapped under soil in Küre as a result of the landslide caused by heavy rains.
The vehicles have been rescued from the debris and the road has been opened to traffic in a controlled manner.
Sinop
Heavy rainfall has also led to a flood in Sinop in the Black Sea. As a brook has overflowed its banks following the heavy rainfall, there are ongoing efforts to rescue the stranded citizens. As the Ayancık Brook has overflowed, several citizens have been reportedly stranded in the district. The Sinop-Ayancık road has also been closed to traffic in two points due to landslides. The teams are still working to remove the landslide.
