The Metropolitan Municipality of Kocaeli has shared information about the inspections of sea, air and noise pollution conducted in the city in 2019.
According to the figures shared by the Municipality, the inspection teams of General Directorate for Environmental Protection and Control inspected the ships in the gulf for 351 times last year.
The Municipality has announced that 13 ships were fined a total of 13 million 3 thousand 566 Turkish Lira (TRY)* for polluting the gulf.
Four ships causing pollution in the Gulf of İzmit were detected during inspections with aeroboats. While the teams intervened in 1,172 incidents during the inspections, 142 incidents were reported to the Provincial Directorate for Environment and Urbanization.
In inspecting marine pollution caused by ships and marine vessels, the Metropolitan Municipality of İzmit has been using sea control planes since 2007 so that the gulf can be kept clean.
Noise and air pollution
The Municipality of Kocaeli has also announced that the ones who caused noise pollution were fined a total of 36 thousand 75 TRY in 660 inspections.
In inspections conducted against air pollution caused by heating in 174 workplaces, seven workplaces in total were detected to cause air pollution in 2019. The Municipality has not shared any information about the amount of fines imposed on those workplaces. (HA/SD)
