The chair of the Inflation Research Group (ENAG) Prof. Dr. Veysel Ulusoy is facing a disciplinary inquiry by the university administration in which the professor works for.
Yeditepe University in İstanbul province launched an inquiry into Ulusoy over the statements he made to the press, blaming Ulusoy for speaking without "permission" and requesting Ulusoy's defense concerning possible use of the institution's premises and resources "against its purpose."
Ulusoy stated two days ago, "The attack against ENAG has started again. They have changed the method."
TurkStat also complained
ENAG, which is founded by a group of leading academics calculates the inflation rate in Turkey differently than the official figures announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
According to TurkStat, in May 2022, the annual consumer inflation rate was 73 percent in Turkey while the Inflation Research Group (ENAG) estimated the same rate as 160 percent.
TurkStat also had previously filed a criminal complaint against ENAG and Ulusoy for "violating personal rights."

About Veysel UlusoyBorn in 1964 in Yozgat province of Turkey, professor Ulusoy graduated from İstanbul University, Department of Econometrics, and completed his master's and Ph.D. at Syracuse University in the US. Ulusoy started to teach at Galatasaray University in 1997 and became a professor in 2006. Having many international publications and the author of several books, Ulusoy founded the Inflation Research Group (ENAG) together with the leading academics from Turkey. About ENAGLed by economists, ENAG releases monthly inflation figures based on its own model and usually finds significantly higher rates than the TurkStat. ENAG collects the data from online and offline sources. Approximately 250.000 price data are extracted daily and filtered using the statistical approaches on the vicinity of standardized normal distribution properties. Filtered data are then categorized as aggregate goods and services where ENAG gives subsamples inflation rates. Daily price indices are statistics that are currently being conducted to calculate monthly inflation rates dynamically. The monthly inflation rate and the rates in the subtitles are shared with the public right after the time of TurkStat's inflation announcement. Henceforth, the results are announced on the 3rd of each month, or in case that date falls on a weekend, on the following Monday. Daily inflation data is be shared separately in the upcoming days. |
