The departure fee, which the citizens who want to go abroad with the passport of the Republic of Turkey are obliged to pay before their departure from the country, has been increased by 200 percent.
With the Presidential decision of President and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the departure fee has been increased from 50 Turkish Lira (TRY) to 200 TRY.
The decision was published in the Official Gazette today (March 18). As per the decision now in force, the price gap will not be collected during the departures today for fee payments made beforehand. The provisions of the decision will be executed by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.
The departure fee is paid at the airports or it can be paid online via the Interactive Tax Office on the web and mobile app.
In effect since 2001, the ocerseas departure fee saw the last increase on July 15, 2019, when it was increased from 15 TRY to 50 TRY.
The following people are exempted from the payment:
- All citizens of Turkey going to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus
- Children under the age of 7
- The ones who have a residence permit or citizenship abroad
- The ones traveling abroad as officials for commercial purposes (international seaway and airway employees, etc.)
