The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the agency responsible for producing official statistics on Turkey, released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data for December 2021 earlier today (January 3).
According to the TurkStat data, the CPI increased by 13.58 percent monthly and 36.08 percent annually in December 2021. It also increased by 19.60 percent on the twelve months moving averages basis.
Highest price increases in transportation
The lowest annual increase in prices was 8.76 percent in communication. Education with 17.23 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 20.02 percent and clothing and footwear with 20.13 percent were the other main groups where low annual increases realized.
Transportation with 53.66 percent, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 43.80 percent and furnishings and household equipment with 40.95 percent were the main groups where high annual increases realized.
Education with 0.13 percent, health with 3.55 percent and communication with 3.65 percent were the main groups that indicated lowest monthly increase. Transportation with 28.49 percent, furnishings and household equipment with 16.54 percent, and food and non-alcoholic beverages with 15.99 percent were the main groups where high monthly increases realized.
Average prices of 364 items increased
In December 2021, within average prices of 415 items in the index, the average prices of 18 items fell and those of 33 items remained unchanged while the average prices of 364 items increased.
A rise in the CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold was realized in the CPI on the basis of the previous month by 13.90 percent, when compared to December of the previous year by 34.89 percent, when compared to the same month of the previous year by 34.89 percent and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 19.55 percent in December 2021.
