The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the labor force statistics for November 2019 today (February 10).
Accordingly, the number of unemployed people aged 15 years and older has increased by 327 thousand to 4 million 308 thousand people in November 2019 when compared with the same period of the previous year.
While the unemployment rate has occurred as 13.3 percent with 1 percentage point increase, non-agricultural unemployment rate has been calculated as 15.4 percent, marking a 1.1 percentage point increase.
The TurkStat has shared the following statistics:
Employment rate: 45.6 percent
In November, the number of unemployed has decreased by 145 thousand to 28 million 169 thousand people when compared to last November. The employment rate has occured as 45.6 percent with 0.9 point decrease.
While the number of agricultural employment has decreased by 147 thousand people, employment in construction has decreased by 253 thousand people, that in industry has increased by 102 thousand people and services has increased by 152 thousand people.
According to the distribution of employment by sector; 17.3 percent has been employed in agriculture, 20.4 percent in industry, 5.6 percent in construction and 56.6 percent has been employed in services.
Labour force participation: 52.5 percent
In November 2019, the number of people in the labour force has been calculated as 32 million 477 thousand with 182 thousand people increase when compared with the same period of the previous year.
Labour force participation rate has been realized as 52.5 percent, marking a 0.5 percentage point decrease.
Unregistered employment: 33.8 percent
The ratio of people working without any social security relating to the main job has occurred as 33.8 percent with 0.2 point increase in the period of November 2019 compared with the same period of the previous year.
The rate of unregistered employment has realized as 22.8 percent without any change in the non-agricultural sector compared with last November.
Public sector employment
According to data gathered by Presidency of Strategy and Budget, the total number of public sector workers has been 4 million 644 thousand with 6.7 percentage point increase in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to the same period of the previous year.
For the 15-64 age group, the unemployment rate has occurred as 13.6 percent with 1 percentage point increase and non-agricultural unemployment rate has occurred as 15.5 percent with 1.1 percentage point increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
In this age group, employment rate has occurred as 50.2 percent with 0.9 percentage point decrease and labour force participation rate has occurred as 58.1 percent with 0.3 percentage point decrease.
Youth unemployment: 24.5 percent
The youth unemployment rate between the ages of 15 and 24 has been calculated as 24.5 percent with 0.9 percentage point increase and the youth employment rate has realized as 32.6 percent with 0.7 percentage point decrease compared with the same period of the previous year.
In the same period, labour force participation rate has become 43.2 percent with 0.3 percentage point decrease. The rate of neither in employment nor in education has realized as 25.2 percent with 0.9 percentage point increase compared with the same period of the previous year.
Seasonally adjusted unemployment: 13.2 percent
While the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has occurred as 13.2 percent with 0.3 percentage point decrease, the number of unemployed people has decreased by 100 thousand to 4 million 318 thousand people.
Seasonally adjusted employment rate has realized as 45.9 percent with 0.2 percentage point increase. The number of employed people has been estimated as 28 million 358 thousand people with 120 thousand increase compared with the same period of the previous year.
Seasonally adjusted labour force participation rate has been measured as 52.8 percent with 0.1 point decrease. The number of labour force has been estimated as 32 million 676 thousand people with 19 thousand increase.
According to the seasonally adjusted number of employment by sectors, employment in agriculture has increased by 45 thousand people and industry has increased by 92 thousand people while construction has decreased by 10 thousand and services has decreased by 8 thousand. (SD)
