The Istanbul Research Institute (İAE) has made the "Occupied City" exhibition accessible online through the iae.org.tr website.
The exhibition which can also be visited physically in Beyoğlu, İstanbul until December 26, sheds light on the traumas and profound transformations experienced by the imperial capital Istanbul, which was in constant flux not only politically but also socially and culturally during the years 1918-1923.
Focusing on the administration of Istanbul by the Allied powers during those years, the exhibition was curated by Daniel-Joseph MacArthur-Seal and Gizem Tongo, along with an international advisory board.
Drawing from the archive of the Istanbul Research Institute as well as various libraries, archives, and collections in Turkey, France, England, Greece, Armenia, and Russia, the exhibition showcases a wide range of documents, including official correspondence, images, films, photographs, and a variety of written and visual materials, many of which are being exhibited for the first time.
