The İstanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week Committee has shared the latest developments about the 28th İstanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week in a video.
While this year's pride week in İstanbul will take place between June 22 and 28, the theme of the week has been announced as "Where am I?"
'Some of us are queens, some of us pimps...'
The İstanbul LGBTI+ Pride Week Committee has announced this year's theme with the following statement:
"We are announcing the theme of the 28th Istanbul LGBTI + Pride Week: 'Where am I?'
"2020 has been and continues to be a year wherein some of us become far apart whilst some of us get closer to ourselves.
"We, as LGBTI+ people familiar with all types of crises and stigma, continue to come together, organize, sing, sexting, enjoy, celebrate our existence and coexistence, and say: where am I?
"We say as those LGBTI+ people bathing and playing in the river of orientations, identities, performances, and becomings or solely sunbathing without going into the river: Where am I in this river, in this city?
"We say as ones whose lives cannot fit into their assigned family houses surrounded by heterosexism in this pandemic and those employed in precarious and exploitative jobs or those dismissed: where am I?
"We, as LGBTI+s, are longing for a safer life amid boundaries that are open to the virus but are forbidden to human, and ask that: where am I?
"We put on lipstick, and the nail polishes are done. Strap-ons are at the waist, and mustaches are growing. Some of us are hairy, and some of us are hairless. Some of us are queens, and some of us are pimps. Masks are many!
"Today, as every day, we saw the bridge in the sky, seven kinds of color." (EMK/SD)
