BIA Media Monitoring Reports

In order to promote socially and ethically responsible media; to provide a record of the implementation of the reforms for broader freedom of expression for the political leaders and and heads of the media and to support the local media in defending their rights against obstacles on their way for enjoying freedom of expression the BIA,

* Monitors and report violations of freedom of expression.

* Monitors the functioning of the media along with the guidelines of freedom of expression and professional ethics.

* Monitors the level and degree of newspapers’ coverage of human, women’s and children’s rights issues, in comparison of   rights-based coverage to daily total output.

* Legal assistance desk continues providing free consultation and guidance for the local media.

Of 254 people tried, 55 were on trial under Article 301; six of them were convicted. 83 people were accused of supporting terrorism, 23 of inciting to hatred and hostility. 34 journalists and 12 media institutions were attacked; Turkey had to pay a total of 123,912 Euros compensation in ECHR cases.
