Turkey's unemployment rate dropped by 0.5 poşnts to 9.7 percent in January, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) figures released today (March 10).
The number of unemployed people aged over 15 decreased by 166,000 in a month to 3.42 million, showed the figures.
The unemployment rate was 7.7 percent among men and 13.7 percent among women.
The broad unemployment rate, termed the underutilization rate by TurkStat, was 21.9 percent, up by 0.6 points compared to the previous month.
The employment rate increased by 0.5 points in a month to 48.9 percent. The number of employed people was 31.83 million. The rate was 66.9 percent among men and 31.2 percent among women.
The number of people in the labor force rose by 188,000 in a month to 35.26 million. The labor force participation rate increased by 0.2 points to 54.1 percent.
The unemployment rate in the 15-24 age group increased by 0.5 points to 20.2 percent. The rate was 16.5 among men and 26.6 percent among women. (HA/VK)
